- A Special Evening to Celebrate Dr. Adrienne Starks

This event provides a platform to celebrate and honor the work of Dr. Adrienne Sparks — a native of Birmingham’s Fairfield neighborhood who earned her Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC), completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the National Cancer Institute (NCI), and returned home to found STREAM Innovations, a nonprofit committed to helping students develop and explore their passion for Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. The event aims to inspire future generations, amplify local voices, foster dialogue, and promote inclusivity in our community.

Like his previous two releases, the tracks on Thus Spoke the Fool feel more like immersive experiences than mere songs, serving as odes to the land and language of Appalachia. These lyrical landscapes pay tribute to the region where Bradshaw settled nearly two decades ago. The songs are rich with imagery of mountain laurel and tobacco leaves, transporting listeners to mill towns, American Legion halls, and Mineral Bluff, GA. The songs offer a hybrid, textured sound with hints of bluegrass and Americana, rich with rustic guitar leads, fiddle and pedal steel.

Ra'Shad the Blues Kid, hailing from Laurel, Mississippi, brings a soulful sound to the world of blues. He previously released albums such as Southern Side of Soul and Bluz Me, and his new album, Live in Clarksdale, is set to be released on January 24, 2025.

Ra'Shad has received numerous awards, most recently placing 2nd at the 2025 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN!
